Hi, please cab you tell me how successfully polinate Heliamphora flowers ?
Markus
Pollinating Heliamphora flowers is not too difficult and with the right technique also quite successful. But you have to be very patient when growing Heliamphora from seed because they need at least 3 - 5 years to grow to maturity.
How to pollinate the flowers is very good described in Peter D’Amato’s book the ‚SAVAGE GARDEN’ one of the standard work of every serious grower.
You also could find some details on my website...

Hello smile.gif .

I have pollinated my one of my Heliamphora follliculata flower in early november. All the anthers have now just fallen. How long before i know if i have successfully managed the pollination? THe ovary is still thin.

Thank you.

François.

In my experience the ovary starts growing within a few days after pollination. It takes about 4 months till the seed capsule becomes dry and seeds can be harvested.
Seed that was sown immediately had a germination rate of around 90 % but after about 7 months in the fridge it dropped to less than 10 %, so better don't store the seed.

Jens

I recently had success when self-pollinating a H. minor. The seedpod is already about 2 months old.

Hi François and Jens,

congratulation for your pollination. icon13.gif
The last days i also tried to pollinate my H. ionasii, but i failed till yet. But i have a few chances left. In the moment i´m training, but if it does not work i´ll have the chance to pollinate my H. heterodoxa ´Ptari Tepui´ in a few weeks.

Best regards,

Dani

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I've got a quick question.
Can heliamphora pollen be stored?
Dave Evans
Dear François,

Could you explain how you did the pollination for your Heliamphora?

Dear François,

I'd like to know the method too. I've read what Peter D'Amato writes in his book "Savage Garden", but I'd like to hear a bit more from people that have done it themselves.

How were you able to get the pollen loose?

Did you have to use pollen from an old flower on a new flower or was the stigma receptive at the same time that pollen was viable?

Interesting video but should imagine not many of us have a tuning fork.

I tried to self pollinate last year but unsuccesfully.
This year I have two different species in flower so I just rubbed them together. biggrin.gif wonder if it will work!

Best regardes from germany,
Paul
