Hi ive had these about a week. When they arrived, some of the traps were turning black. I think the traps have had there time. My question is. Should i just cut the trap of or all the leaf as close to the stem as poss as its obviously dying. They were very damp when i recieved them i havnt watered em all week as they are still moist. thought id let em dry out just a little. Theres the odd fungus gnat every other day but im squishing em as i see them. Wondered whether to re-pot them or not. But they are from a reputable supplier here in the uk so i thought id leave them till next yr. (would re-potting them combat the fungus gnats or would it be best just to leave them till next spring now. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks....

Pics are of 2 diff plants.

When a trap is mainly black, I cut it out. When a leaf is mainly black, i cut it / pull it out at the stem. The reason I leave it is because the healthy looking part can still do photosynthesis. The reason I cut it out is it is better for the health of the plant as it decrease that chance of a fungus infection, also it looks better.

Yes let it dry out a bit before re-watering. It might get rid of the fungus gnats and secondly i have found VFTs benefit from a wet to dry cycle. Just don't let them get bone dry.

Personally i would try and avoid repotting at this stage in the season. Fungus gnats in one or two pot won't be hard to get rid of.

Ways to get rid of them:

-Let the top soil get dry *helps if you water with a tray*

if that doesn't work.
- Repotting *plant may go into shock and be set back awhile*
- Neem oil - Handy to have around, i found it effective on fungus gnats and it can be used to treat fungus and mold.
- Provado - Ultimate bug killer and the dunk.

I wait until the whole leaf is black before taking it off - never cut a green bit off as it still photosynthesizes. I see that the trap in question has prey, this will continue to supply the plant with nutrients until the leaf dies....so it would be best if you left it :)
