Hi everyone,

I am new to growing from seed and am having my first bash!

So far I have about 8 seedlings but the first one to germinate seems to look quite different and despite it's head start, growth now seems to be on pause.
(Pictures attached) any thoughts? Normal?

My other question is after reading mixed advice. Should these seeds be covered (increasing humidity) or open (increasing light exposure)?

I started using makeshift germination chambers from transparent Tupperware containers with holes in the lids. I have taken the lids off now as the first seed to germinate was just chucked in with my pullings and did not have a lid on.

Any other advice about what I should or shouldn't be doing with my seeds would be very welcome,

Tom

I dont think Mr Chubby is Dionaea. Just leave it and see what happens. Are those white tufts growing out of it or is that something unconnected to it

'Mr Chubby' seedling is reminiscent of Cephalotus seedlings, but you'd have notice the seed when potting, as they are radically different to VFT seeds. I guess you'll just have to wait and see what it turns out to be.

Thanks for the responses,

I am sure when this seedling first emerged, it was wearing a dianaea (or very similar) seed as a hat (in the usual fashion).

It is an odd one - the strange hair I think is part of the plant as it is growing from a kind of central pore.

I thought the most likely thing was that it was a different similar looking seed that got mixed up at a nursery but I guess I will have to wait and see...

I just looked up pictures of Cephalotus seedlings and they are so similar to Mr chubby, I think he must be one type or other of those! thanks!
