I use my own mix of equal parts (peat-free) bark-based potting compost and sterilised topsoil, equivalent to a "John Innes" mix, with a gravel top dressing

Thankyou for the the info.

I've been using john innes with perlite 70/30ish. I think I will try less perlite this year, and fertilise more. I  keep having the bigger bulbs make lots of offshoot bulbs, and not grow much in size themselves.

In the first photo it looks almost iridescent.

And I'm sure that the smell isn't that bad

Hi gardenofeden and Dicon
After flowering konjac's tend to send up two growing points producing two leaves and two bulbs at the end of the growing season, but doing two bulbs means they will be much smaller! If you're after nice big flowering size bulbs I would recommend cutting of the secondary growing point as soon as u can.
Happy growing Jim

Amorphophallus konjac flower, now opened, it's about 32" high and smells like a 2 week old dead badger!. The dog agrees, likes the smell, then tried to rub it all over himself! Very dark in colour, much darker than other examples I have seen photos of.

I'm not an avid collector, but I do have a few nice bits, sting ray, marine reptile, fircone, and some good trilobites and irridescent ammonites, a few fish, etc.
Prices of the good stuff has got a bit silly.........or at least outgrown my wallet!
