I've just spend a week on the beautiful island of St Lucia. While on a trip around a rain forest in the north of the island I saw a lot of mimosa species, but was glad when I found Mimosa pudica. Apparently plantation owners of old used to surround their plantations with the stuff, so if one of their slaves escaped they would be able to see where they got away.
