I have been taking a few pics of some seeds, I was trying to get them onto the web but my host is being a pain!! So here is what I have loaded in Drosera so far.... If you can't see the pic you can use the link.

All the seeds are photgraphed under the same magnification so give you a good idea of size comparison.

Superb shots George. Looks like you have got the method perfected now. You'll have to get your site fixed up and the images added. I wish I could take shots like these myself. I'd definitely add them to my site.

Sean.

Oh, and I fixed up one of the images for you. You hadn't entered the image URL properly :P

Hi Tamlin,

The Drosera sp. Vim da Serra de Roraimae looks similar to a form of Drosera intermedia but finer in all its parts. It has a different appearance growth wise (angle and shape of the leaves). The inflorescence is very thin compared to any of the forms of D. intermedia I have seen.

(That is a terrible description I'm afraid :P . Maybe a photo would be able to answer your question a little more eloquently. I take a photo of my plants the next chance I get)

I haven't actually seen a flower yet but the plants have inflorescences at the moment. The flowers should open in the next week or so.

Here goes again... No mater what I tried typing in it kept going down, the interenet, word, notepad....

Anyway, the seeds were colected off my plants, but I did not take any notice of flower colour as I did not see an open flower, but I have a feeling the buds were pink... :(

I think they are closer to capilaris as capilaris have ridges running along the seed, but they have similarites with intermedia as these seeds are covered in raised lumps. So you could say that vim da serra de roraimae is somewhere between the two. I have some pics of seeds from both these species I would like to post so you can see what I mean. A picture says a thousand words.

The seeds were photographed under 40x magnification, at this magnification there is very little depth of feild so with the larger seeds parts are out of focus. To give you an idea of the size of the seeds the larger D. adelae seed is about 0.69mm long along the longest point in the pic. So grab your rulers and start measureing :(

For lighting I use the flash of the camera reflected off a sheet of white paper. I find this method gives good structural definition to the seeds. This is also handy as all I have to transport to get some pics is the camera, microscope and sheet of printer paper. I have taken many hundreds of  seed pics now so am finaly getting the hang of it.

Tamlin, I have many more pics of pygmy seeds to load onto the net :)

Any more questions?

Hi George

The D.adelae reminds me of a golf ball with those dimples. The photos have come out great. Just out of curiosity, did the photos you took of my tuberous Drosera seed come out just as well.

5MB won't last you too long with the amount you have to upload will it? You might have to fork out some cash and buy some more space like I had to.

Sean.
