The plan is to build a bog garden in a half barrel, the plant's I have planned to put in it are D. californica, S. purpurea x venosa, S. leucophylla, S. purpurea,S. alata and some garden centre hybrid jobby I have. Also a few D. capensis for the sake of it.

Now the question is will those plants be ok through the winter? Or will I have to insulate the barrel in bubble wrap or something?

Also whens the best time to make one? Can I get away with it mid - winter?

Ah cheers Aiden, S. leucophylla and S. alata are best grown in  a greenhouse then?

I guess it depends on where you are. Here in Hertfordshire i have lots of S.leucophylla that are thriving, but iv lost some S. Alata though others still persist and now completly hardened off. All the D. capensis iv tried have failed, the drosera that do well for me tend to be the binata. Those garden centre sarra hybrids perish pretty quick under frost, i think its something to do with the tissue culture growth as they tend to throw up lots and lots of weedy pitchers instead of building up their rhizome and saving energy. But saying that i still have a few garden centre specials that survive each winter.
