This is a really useful post, thanks. :tu:

I want to have a go at this with my d. binata - all I need to know is, is this a good time of year to be having a bash?  :?

I think this would be an ideal time of year to give it a go, the new plants should then be a decent size before it is time for their winter dormancy.

Cheers,

I never had luck with leaf floatings but I will try again.

The same technique works with leaf cuttings of D.slackii & root cuttings of D.regia

What a great post!
I think there should be a section in this forum where such kind of manuals should be collected, either that, or sticky in the drosera section? (ha, pun not intended!)

oh...that's what the faq section is meant for...? duhh..

It works fine with:

D. cistiflora (only the bottom leaves)
D. coccipetala
D. filiformis (red form and all hybrids)
D. hamiltonii
D. neocaledonica
D. roraimae
D. schizandra
D. whittakeri (tuberous!)
D. villosa

D. muscipula

and many others

It works not with:

D. ramentacea
D. stenopetala

Cheers
Jürgen

I noticed that some of the photos in the original post had gone missing, not sure why.  I have now uploaded all the photos to CPUK Photo Hosting and edited the original post to use them instead so all the photos should be visible again now.

Cheers,

I've just tried this with some d. filiformis I received today from Howard as many of the leaves had snapped. Would be a shame to waste them

Unfortunately, I don't have any appropriate air tight containers at the moment - I'll have to get some soon and then transfer the cuttings.

Wish me luck!

You can lay them out flat in a container on moist media.

Had high success rate with leaves of D.slackii with deionised water.

Just curious, has anyone tried to propagate pygmy Dros by leaf cuttings, either by water, or otherwise?  - Rich

I doubt it seeing as gemmae is such an easy way of propagating them.
