Part of the reason we went were we did was to see the orchids, the epiphytic species flower in ~April in this area whereas the gorund species typically flower at the start of the dry season in October, well not much of a dry season so far in thialand this year so many of he orchids werent flowering...

That said a few where flowering, to start with this is one of my favourites and one i grow at home in a sunny windowsill, Doritis Pulcherrima, although I think its been reclassified as a Phaelenopsis recently?

A real treat to see it in the wild, unfortunately the colours on camera are not the same as in the flesh as you can probably guess from the two following photos, a very common orchid in this locality...

A good one to show when you get the inevitable 'Does my Phal need repotting? type questions at flower shows...

They have been used for breeding phaelenopsis hybrids as the flower spike is long lasting and grows straight up without the need of support.

I only saw one specimen in a tree, the vast majority were growing on rocks, the thing that really impressed me about the plant, is this guy is growing in the flood plain of the river, when it rains its underwater, and subject to some fairly fierce currents by the look of the rock... Several plants were in the flood plains and growing exposed to full sun.

Loads of orchids everywhere especially around the waterfalls, sadly most had flowered around april, and like the following were covered in ripening seed pods...
