Gerard
Hello everybody, Recently we acquired two pitcher plants. They were growing fine for the first couple of weeks, but now one of them is deteriorating at rapid rate. It appears to be shrivelling up and white hairy fungus is growing on the soil and the dying pitchers. I know that they go into winter dormancy, so I can expect them not too look super vibrant, but I'm wondering what the best thing is we could do to nurture it back to health and get rid of the fungus. Is repotting with new soil a good idea? Obviously my knowledge about pitcher plants is very limited, so I thought I would come down here and ask for some advice before I go out and destroy the plant ;) Gerard

pirks
Powdery mildew is the mold in the pictures. This is caused by the soil being too wet and not enough air flow, to combat this from happening again keep the plants dryer in wintertime and somewhere that has a better airflow. Dunc
Cut back the dead pitchers as far as you can and then put these outside! Too warm & wet with too little light at this time of year ;-p
Gerard
Thank you very much for your advice guys! I will try to remove the mold, cut back the pitchers and put them outside. Lets hope they will see through the winter
werds
Doesn´t look a good soil also, better use a mix of sphagnum peat + perlite (50:50). And for advice the plants need to be pushed up, the rizhome as to be visible.

I'm slightly worried it might weaken them, but I don't know
werds
Better now than leaving them with that conditions Edited January 8, 2018 by werds
Alexis
They were probably given tap water in the shop. I’d repot ASAP
Gerard
Thank you everybody! We gave them new soil (the 50:50 one) and removed the dead pitchers and fungus. I will also put them outside. Gerard
