The Lost World Nursery in Preston ( North West)

Recommended Posts

So after being told the closest CP suppliers were all down South i did some research and found " The Lost World"

http://thelostworldnursery.myshopify.com

The guy in there Phill was very helpful and said he used to always be on the forum. He had alot of sarracenia and drosera and he had a nepenthes room which was great. Anybody thats lives not far from there it could be worth the trip. Thanks

Dan

Yes he has alot more than what is advertised on website. He said he hasnt advertised and doesnt get many people coming up for canivorous plants. The nepenthes house was over run by pitchers there was so many in ther. He has alot of sarracenia different hybrids and straight species, has some pings, couple VFT. And different forms of drosera oh and not to forget the nepenthes house. I purchased a N.gebrilata and N. Talangensis x spectabilis ( if hats the correct spelling)

Thanks

Dan

Since I moved up to Lancashire 2 years ago, I've emailed him three or four times for his nepenthes availability list and about visiting, as LWN is only about an hour away from here. Each time he replied and promised to put a list together for me but he never actually got round to it (I didn't want a wasted journey if he had no neps available). So I just decided to forget about it as I was beginning to feel like I was nagging him, and that maybe he didn't actually have any nepenthes for sale. The half a dozen neps shown in his webshop hasn't changed in the two years either.

Cheers for the photos Dan, but if those are the size of his sale nepenthe's then I'm not interested anyway. They're way too big for me, I like the challenge of nurturing very young plants and watching the juvenile lower pitchers developing. There's no fun for me in buying other folks mature plants that they've had the enjoyment of growing. That said, I'm more interested than ever in going for just a look around now, it appears to be a far better setup than the picture I'd painted in my head after our failed email conversations.

Nothing worse than people not replying, saying that he did say to me he has been run of his feet and has only been working there full time since march. I give him a call and had a chat, not all nepenthes are that size, i bought a N.Glabrata from him which only has one small pitcher. I think if you maybe contact him by phone he could maybe tell you what juvinile species he has, it well worth the trip it only took me 45mins from liverpool. Thanks

Oh he never failed to reply, and was always apologetic about not having time to get a list together for me due to being busy, but I even emailed him over the coldest darkest days of winter when I thought he'd be sat indoors by the fire with a brew, but still no joy. Of course, he may well have other commitments too.

Could you possibly photograph what you bought and give details of the sizes and prices please Dan ? Maybe do it via PM if you don't want to say on the open forum ? I'd really appreciate it mate before I attempt contacting him again. But I'll ring him this time as you say, hopefully I'll get up there this Summer finally.

I saw your pics from the nursery in Instagram before but I must say it is easier to imagine the place and the plants with the flikr pics!

Looks like they have some interesting stuff there, gonna check the website.

The website isnt upto date as such with plants, best giving him a call maybe he could tell you what he has in. Thanks

Dan
