  1. Dear All, About 130 new high quality photos have just been added to our catalogue page. These show many hybrids that were released in recent years and now they have matured, so their full splendour can finally be seen. New photos are clearly marked as NEW. We hope that those of you growing these plants find these new photos useful. If you notice any mistakes, please let us know. I'm sure you will. We've also added a gallery of photos from last years Hampton Court Palace Flower Show linked from our homepage. Better late than never! Some of the photos show the fun we had, setting up as well as photos from around the show as well. Cheers, Rob

Nepenthes Bio-Domes now available in UK

Thanks 19silverman93, we've tested them pretty thoroughly in the UK and they are really easy to keep. David Attenborough had about 6 prototypes on his windowsill for a long time and has now transferred them to John Lewis candle jars (ideal actually). His collection include N. attenboroughii of course. But the answer to your question is "yes". There will be a new cultivar out in May in Bio-Domes which will be a selected clone of N. rafflesiana x sibuyanensis (photo below) and a then there will be more to follow, practically on a monthly basis. The one after that will probably be Nepenthes 'Bill Bailey' = Nepenthes singalana x ventricosa.

Nepenthes Bio-Domes now available in UK

Actually, it's designed so the Neps grow out of the hole in the top and slowly acclimatises to whatever they finds outside. Works great actually. Doesn't need repotting for at least a year by which time the dome itself has practically disappeared inside the plant.
  4. Since we introduced the easy-to-keep Bio-Dome growing concept, there has been interest as to when they might be available in the UK (& elsewhere). The Eden Project down in deepest and rather remote Cornwall are now stocking them but the best news is that they supply by mail order here Or find it in their section called: "A fabulous range of Christmas gifts all £10 & under" on the flowers and gifts section of the Eden Project Shop website. Each Bio-Dome unit contains two plants of a selected all-red cultivar of Nepenthes ampullaria x ventricosa. called Nepenthes 'Lady Luck'. This by the way is the same cultivar as Nepenthes 'Bloody Mary' which is sold by a Dutch nursery as large plants. (same clone, different name). We've tested and successfully grown this cultivar down to 10 deg C and up to 40 deg C but it's not yet known what it's actual limits of survival tolerance are. If anyone finds out that it will survive temperatures outside this range, please do let me know!. And here's a pair of plants of Nepenthes 'Lady Luck' (or Nepenthes 'Bloody Mary') at about 1 year old.
  5. We're coming to the end of a very successful Hampton Court Flower Show - our first one - and will be selling off plants on Sunday. Some of the items are so new they have never been sold before and all are show specimens in good conditions thanks to nearly continuous spraying during this heat wave (thanks to all who helped). All have a rootball. There's a list at http://www.borneoexo...ll_off_list.pdf and the prices shown are negotiable if you make an offer. You can either come yourself to collect or Chris Crow of Sarracenia Nurseries will take send them to you for a fee (negotiable with him). you can call Chris at 07958653622 or Jasper at 0794640665 with your bids. Sorry the photos on the pdf documents are poor but it's the best we could do at short notice. Also as time is short I've posted this on various sections of the forum - hope the mods don't mind. Can all be deleted on Monday!

    Borneo Exotics at Hampton

Thanks for the photos Elvis and thank you to all who volunteered their valuable time to help us out. It's been a great show for us and we've had a lot of fun.
  9. Hi, We've been invited as a late entrant to Hampton Court and rely heavily on volunteers to help us out. Here's what we are looking for: Show Days Tue 9th- Fri 12th July (with possibility of Sat 13th and Sun 14th if we can scrounge some more passes). If people come on the Sunday we will be asking them to work into the evening if possible, to help with the tear-down. There is a chance of some free plants off the exhibit as payment if you work late. Duties - helping to assemble and sell Bio-Domes (see http://www.bio-domes.org ) and helping to staff the exhibit on a roster basis, helping keep the plants sprayed and answering crazy questions from the public. Also occasionally putting Diana's toys back into her pram etc. You will get time off to see the show. We provide only the exhibitors pass and also will buy you lunch and maybe a beer or two. If anyone is interested, please would you drop us a line at nepenthes@borneoexotics.com Cheers, Rob

    Borneo Exotics 2012 Roundup

Hi, As promised, here's a summary of all 70 of the new BE introductions from 2012: http://www.borneoexo...012_roundup.pdf It's a largish file at 9MB and 36 pages but there are lots of photos which we hope you'll enjoy. The photos of new items are as they were when they were first launched and many of them have grown on a lot since then. Soon, I'll upload an updated version of this Roundup showing how the plants look now. 12. Here is our first newsletter for the year, announcing fifteen new releases, some of them quite toothy types. http://www.borneoexo...l_2_Issue_1.pdf And for those who think that plants out of microprop are somehow inferior and for those who say that BE releases mostly plants from microprop - every one of these 15 new items are nursery raised from seeds. Of course, that means limited supply and some of the nicest varieties will sell out immediately and not be available again for years, but of course, if that's what people prefer... Cheers, Rob
  13. Hi Folks, Seasons greetings everyone! We've just posted our second and last newsletter for the year announcing ten new releases, all available through our network of distributors. You can find the link from our Facebook Page at http://www.facebook....117390238421612 but in case you’re not a Facebook fan, as promised earlier, here is the direct link: http://www.borneoexo...l_1_Issue_2.pdf All the best everyone, have a happy festive season and a great New Year!’ Rob, Diana & the Team at Borneo Exotics

    N. rajah x robcantleyi - a sneak preview

Hi jb_orhcidguy, I love the forums actually and used to post much more than I do these days, Just wish I had more time for it. We shipped your plants off to Tony about 2 hours ago and they are somewhere over the Indian Ocean right now. I happened to see the sing x red hairy hamata before they went out and it's a lovely, very beautiful, little hybrid. I had little hope that it would turn out that well as hairy hamata is such a weak and slow-growing plant but the hybrids seem fine. There are a lot of people on the forums who know at least as much as I do about Neps, so you really don't need to pick my brains. These days, sadly, I know more about running an office and a lab than actually growing the plants.

    New Borneo Exotics Newsletter

I hope the mods don't mind this, as I've always tried to avoid making posts that can be construed as commercial but this one is probably borderline: Some of you will know that BE releases up to 12 new Nepenthes items per month, either new hybrids, or cultivars, or sometimes new species. We try not to post on the forums whenever something new comes out, mainly because I feel that would be a pretty blatant commercial use of the forums. However, I do get a lot of e-mails asking about what's being released and I have trouble keeping up with all the questions. For this reason I've launched a 'Nepenthes Growers Newsletter' for public circulation, which is linked from BE's (also new) Facebook Page at: http://www.facebook....117390238421612 . Future editions will feature news, growing tips, or whatever else you might ask for. Notifications of each issue and the link will be given through the Facebook page, so I won't be posting about the Newsletter on this forum again. Thanks! Rob
